Lexus prepares to debut the all-new, tech-forward ES sedan in India.

The Indian luxury sedan market is about to get a serious jolt of adrenaline. On March 20, 2026, Lexus will officially pull the silk off the next-generation ES. Stepping into the ring against heavyweights like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series LWB, and Audi A6, the new ES isn't just a minor update—it’s a total transformation.

A Bold New Look

The 2026 ES moves away from the traditional Lexus "spindle grille" in favor of a much sharper, more aerodynamic silhouette. The front end is dominated by striking Z-shaped DRLs and hidden headlight units, giving it a face that looks like it traveled back from the future.

It’s also physically more imposing than the model it replaces. By stretching the wheelbase and increasing the length and width, Lexus has created a sedan that offers significantly more presence on the road and more room on the inside.

The Digital Upgradation

Inside, Lexus has traded "button-heavy" for "minimalist chic." The centerpiece is a massive 14-inch infotainment touchscreen that handles almost everything, from climate control to navigation.

Key Interior Highlights:

  • Mark Levinson Audio: For a studio-quality listening experience.
  • Smart Glass: An electrochromic panoramic roof that tints at the touch of a button.
  • Enhanced Serenity: New sound-insulating glass and door seals make this the quietest ES cabin to date.
  • Rear-Seat Luxury: Including reclining seats and a "Boss Mode" for those who prefer to be driven.

Performance: Hybrid or Electric?

Lexus is doubling down on efficiency without sacrificing power. While the hybrid remains the expected bread-and-butter for India, the global lineup now includes full EV variants. The ES 550e electric variant is the standout performer, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100kph in just 5.9 seconds, while the long-range 350e claims a massive 685km range (CLTC). Whether Lexus brings the full EV lineup to India immediately remains the big question for launch day.

Key Competitors & Why

The Lexus ES competes in a crowded field of executive luxury sedans, each offering a distinct personality:

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class (LWB) is the primary rival and the traditional "gold standard" for prestige in India. It is a threat because of its immense brand status and its focus on opulence, featuring a flashy "Superscreen" dashboard and class-leading rear-legroom.

The BMW 5 Series (LWB) targets the driver. It is a key competitor because it offers a more athletic and sporty driving experience. Now that it also comes in a Long Wheelbase version, it matches the comfort of the others while appealing to those who occasionally like to take the wheel themselves.

The Audi A6 represents the understated, tech-forward choice. It is a competitor because it often provides a more accessible entry point into the segment with a clean, modern interior and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system that feels secure and logical.

While the Germans focus on high-speed performance and flashy tech, the Lexus ES wins by focusing on peace of mind, long-term value, and unmatched refinement.
