Volkswagen launches the flagship Tayron R-Line SUV at Rs 46.99 Lakh

Volkswagen India is set to unveil its premium lineup today, February 19, with the official price announcement of its new flagship, the Tayron R-Line. Touted as a more spacious, 3-row alternative to the Tiguan, this SUV marks Volkswagen's strong return to the luxury seven-seater segment following the exit of the Tiguan Allspace.

Design and Premium Aesthetics

The Tayron R-Line is locally assembled at the brand’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, ensuring a high-quality German build tailored for the Indian market. Its exterior is defined by sporty R-Line elements, including aggressive bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels, and advanced Matrix LED headlights. Adding to its modern appeal are the illuminated Volkswagen logos at both ends and a selection of seven sophisticated metallic color options.

High-Tech Cabin

Inside, the Tayron feels more like a private lounge. The dashboard is dominated by a massive 15-inch touchscreen, and the cabin is packed with "wishlist" features:

  • Luxury Seating: Front seats that don't just heat and cool, but also offer a massage function.
  • Premium Audio: An 11-speaker Harman Kardon system.
  • The Vibe: A panoramic sunroof and 30 different colors of ambient lighting to suit your mood.

The cabin is designed to be a tech-heavy sanctuary for large families. It features a massive 15-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, complemented by a premium 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. To tackle Indian weather, the powered front seats come equipped with ventilation and massage functions. Other highlights include:

  • A large panoramic sunroof.
  • 30-color ambient lighting.
  • Level 2 ADAS safety suite for enhanced driver assistance.

Performance and Capability

Under the hood, the Tayron R-Line is powered by the proven 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, delivering 204hp and 320Nm of torque. This power is managed by a smooth 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and sent to all wheels via the 4Motion All-Wheel Drive system. The SUV is impressively quick for its size, capable of hitting 0–100kph in just 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 224kph.

Market Price

Bookings are currently open for a token amount of ₹51,000. While the R-Line is the fully loaded flagship, a standard, more affordable variant is expected to join the range later this year. Upon launch, it will compete directly with established rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and the Skoda Kodiaq.
